1960s fairy princess party dress by costume designer extraordinaire, Helen Rose, who was the chief designer for MGM from the late 40s through the 60s. She designed costumes for nearly 150 films! She won 2 Academy Awards for costume design (and was nominated 8 times). Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor wore gowns designed by her on their wedding days! This beauty has a heavily beaded and sequined bodice and a full circle skirt with 3 layers of silk chiffon! The top 2 layers are powder blue and the one underneath is CHARTREUSE (SURPRISE)!!! The beading is wonderfully in tact - I can’t find a single one out of place! In great shape for its age, but it’s important to mention a few things. The dress appears to be have been altered shorter. The chiffon has been painstakingly hand-rolled and stitched (which must have taken that person forever)! It’s also safe to guess that the zipper has been replaced, but is completely concealed when you’ve snapped and hooked everything into place. I can count 4 small brownish spots on the skirt (2 on the front, 2 on the back). Might come out in a dry-cleaning, but not very noticeable as there is so much fabric. I think this would make for such a pretty fairy primadonna costume for Halloween!! Measures 31.5” length, 32”/34” bust, 23”/24” waist, and free hips. Fits like a size XS.
